The 14th edition of the International Sand Sculpture Festival Scheveningen will be held from Sunday May 16 through Sunday June 6. On May 16 international sand sculpture artists will start work on their sculptures.

Lion King
The sand sculpture artists have until May 21 to complete their works of art. On that day a professional jury will judge the sand sculptures which grace a 1.5-kilometer-long stretch of beach. The members of the panel base their judgement on the artistic value, degree of technical complexity and composition of the sculptures. A total of eight huge sculptures will be created. This year's theme is 'The Lion King', after the musical which is now playing in the Fortis Circus Theater in Scheveningen. Admission to the sand sculpture festival is free.
