Egyptian sandals from 800AD, 19th century silk slippers and Prada wedges are among the footwear to be seen in a new, free exhibition at the Tolson Museum in Huddersfield (open daily until April 16). Visitors can explore how shoes have changed to reflect culture and fashion, as well as getting an insight into the stories and superstitions surrounding footwear.

'Beetlecrushers' from the 1950s, 1970s platforms and 'winkle-pickers' from the 1980s are among the shoes on show, with examples by Yves Saint Laurent, Stuart Wietzman and Prada, among others. Huddersfield is in Yorkshire's Pennine Hills, 200 miles north of London. Tel: 01484 223830.
