Two of England's finest provincial modern art galleries are set to reopen in 2005 with major improvements.
Pallant House Gallery in Chichester, Sussex has been an important gallery for the last 20 years, but when it reopens next summer it will have a stylish new building alongside its existing home - the Queen Anne townhouse - to show its collection of 20th century Modern Art and temporary exhibitions.
It will also house an art reference library, education workshop and prints and drawings room. A superb location for one of the best 20th century British art collections in private hands: the Wilson collection which includes works such as Patrick Caulfield's portrait of Juan Gris, Richard Hamilton's 'Swinging London '67' and Peter Blake's 'The 1962 Beatles'. · The Arnolfini, Bristol's internationally renowned contemporary art centre on the city's lively waterfront, will also reopen in the summer, following a 20-month redevelopment featuring structural and engineering work. The highlights include a new double-storey gallery, an education centre, bookshop and café, and lifts to every floor. Admission will be free.
