Liverpool and Merseyside will come alive with a host of SeaBritain events in 2005. Regattas, festivals, maritime themed entertainment and an exhibition on the golden years of transatlantic liner travel all feature.

Among the highlights are:

Liverpool to New York - The Only Way to Cross
Merseyside Maritime Museum, Albert Dock (29 January-14 August). A major exhibition exploring the role played by Liverpool during the golden years of transatlantic ocean travel between the 1920s and 1960s.

Summer of the Seaside, Albert Dock (1 April-30 September). An exhibition featuring Impressionist paintings of the seaside.

Time and Tide Exhibition, Albert Dock (1-30 June). An alfresco exhibition of 54 large-scale photographic panoramas of every surviving seaside pier in England and Wales.

Mersey River Festival, along Liverpool's World Heritage waterfront and throughout the Sefton and Wirral coastline (10-13 June). The 25th free event, featuring tall ships, racing yachts, street theatre, an international shanty festival, military displays and much much more.

Clipper 05-06, the world's longest circumnavigation yacht race starts from Albert Dock on 18 September. Ten identical new 68-foot yachts will then set off down the River Mersey.

Battle of Trafalgar Bicentennial Celebration, Grand Turk, the magnificent wooden frigate, drops anchor at Albert Dock on 21 October to mark the 200th anniversary of Trafalgar.
