A new guide to Britain's waterways will help visitors get the most of its 2,000-mile network of canals, lakes and navigable rivers - both on and alongside the water. The brochure, "Enjoy Britain's Waterscape" has been produced by Waterscape.com and is available free from VisitBritain's offices overseas.
It features suggestions for days out and holidays as well as a range of activities from boating and angling to walking and cycling.
The rivers and canals reach into every corner of the UK - through the heart of cities as well as rural areas. The canals provide a glimpse of the country's 200-year-old industrial architecture, and a slow-paced world of colourful narrow-boats and waterside pubs. The lakes of Cumbria, the Norfolk Broads and Wales offer breathtaking countryside, as does Scotland which has two great coast-to-coast canals.
