Calling all cryptic crossword enthusiasts. The Castle Hotel in Taunton is holding a Cruciverbal Weekend starting on Friday 29 April and hosted by Tim Moorey a professional crossword setter for, among others, The Sunday Times and The Independent.
For lovers of cryptic clues and beginners alike, the weekend will be a fun, relaxed teach-in which begins with a champagne reception before a three-course dinner in the hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant. This will be followed by an after-dinner talk by Tim on the joy of the English language, the fascinating story of crossword and the tricks of the trade. There will be a word-based quiz, with answers on the Saturday.
After a hearty English breakfast, Saturday will be spent exploring the language of the cryptic clue and learning how to solve clues and whole puzzles. A two-course lunch will be served in Brazz, the hotel's contemporary brasserie. Dinner is once again served in the hotel's main restaurant.
All-inclusive prices for the weekend range from £275 per person to £355, depending on the standard of accommodation chosen.
