As the largest production centre in the UK outside London, home to over 150 film, television and new media production companies and with plans to develop new studios, Cardiff is an appropriate choice to host the 26th Celtic Film and Television Festival this year (April 6-9).
It aims to promote the best of production from the cultures and languages of Brittany, Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland and Wales and will be making awards in 17 categories. Highlights of the festival include features on new studios in Wales, including Celtic Studios and Dragon Studios; speakers from Sweden, Belgium, Ireland and Brittany; and a discussion with Russell T. Davis, writer of the new "Dr. Who" science fiction series for BBC TV.
Cardiff, 150 miles west of London, is celebrating its centenary as a city and its 50th year as Wales’ capital in 2005, and has seen the opening of the Wales Millennium Centre for the arts as well as being home to the Millennium Stadium. Entry to the festival starts at £80 per day. Venues include the new Holland House Hotel and the National Museum of Wales. For registration tel: 0141 302 1737. Website: www.celticfilm.co.uk
