Portsmouth Hosts Maritime SpectacularAs part of the nationwide 'SeaBritain' celebrations in 2005, one of the largest international gatherings of ships, and an International Festival of the Sea, combine to make six days of Trafalgar bicentennial celebrations a treat for visitors to the south of England this summer (June 28-July 3).

Portsmouth hosts The International Fleet Review (June 28) which begins the programme when the Royal Navy will host ships from the navies of over 40 countris, with 150 ships plus thousands of small boats. In the evening a son et lumiere will provide a spectacular illustration of a Napoleonic sea battle at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour, including a Red Arrows flying display and the lighting up of the fleet.

The four-day International Festival of the Sea at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard (from June 30) will give visitors an opportunity to board many of the tall ships, warships and naval auxiliary vessels. The armed services will perform displays on land and water and the quaysides will conjure up the atmosphere of a fleet preparing to leave for battle with sailors, musicians and an Admiral Lord Nelson lookalike.

The International Festival of the Sea runs from June 30th - July 3rd and combines the flair, vision, expertise and resources of the Royal Navy and Festival Management Ltd, the creators of the Festival concept first unveiled in Bristol in 1996.

IFOS, as it is affectionately known in Portsmouth, consistently attracts over 250,000 visitors to the Royal Naval Base and Historic Dockyard.

As the highlight of a unique year, celebrating our abiding national love affair with the sea, The International Festival of the Sea 2005 will set and fulfil the highest of standards.

We feel sure as sponsors, exhibitors, corporate partners or simply as visitors; you will want to join us for four of the most exhilarating days of this exciting year.
