From September 3 to 26, Copenhagen celebrates the Golden Age of Danish art and culture in the 1890s at the Golden Days Festival. The focus is on decorative art, literature and city life – including architecture. Look for more than 200 exhibitions and events including a performance of Carl Nielsen’s 1897 symphony Hymnis Amoris and art from the 1891 Free Exhibition for Artists – Denmark’s version of the history-making French Impressionists.

Viking Ship Sets Sail

Rebuilding the Viking warship is the most ambitious Viking ship restoration ever undertaken. And on September 4, four years after the project began, the restored 11th-century ship will be launched at the in Roskilde. At any time of year, the Viking Ship Museum is a must-see for anyone who wants to be awed by the power of histoy.

Copenhagen Summer Dance Festival

From August 10-15, the circular courtyard of Copenhagen’s Police Headquarters building becomes the backdrop for Copenhagen Summer Dance, a glorious outdoor dance festival featuring three outstanding Scandinavian dance companies: the New Danish Dance Theatre, Norwegian National Ballet and Sweden’s Gothenborg Opera Ballet.
